In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Deniz Yılmazgüç

Deniz Yılmazgüç, born on September 24th, 2008,and currently is 15 years old. His academic journey commenced at Avrupa Koleji. Then, he transitioned to FMV Ayazğa Işık Middle School and now continues his highschool life there. Deniz's interests are broad, ranging from building drones to playing guitar, and indulging in sports. He's particularly passionate about literature and has translated over seven books from English to Turkish, with "The Crown" as his only published translation. In his academic journey, Deniz eagerly explores subjects like math, physics, biology, and history, fostering discussions with peers and teachers to broaden his understanding and horizons. Deniz's curiosity extends beyond class, as he dives into project design. He treasures social interactions, enjoying diverse conversations. Despite challenges Deniz faces them with resilience, recognizing their role in personal growth. With his future ahead, Deniz looks forward to challenges, ready to grow and succeed.

Doruk Agocuk

Doruk Agocuk, a 16-year-old student, was born on February 20th, 2008. He is currently attending at FMV Işık Ispartakule Highschool as a 10th grade student. After his primary school years, he continued his academic pursuits at Doğa Koleji, where he actively participated in robotics and coding conventions. In addition to his academic endeavors, Doruk is passionate about martial arts. He holds a license in Taekwondo and is currently training in Kickboxing and Muay Thai. With a strong background in foreign languages, including German and English, Doruk is currently studying English and Spanish. He has also earned a degree in English, continuously enhancing his linguistic abilities over time. Doruk's extracurricular involvement extends to participating in Model United Nations conferences, where he represented various countries as a delegate. His dedication to research has propelled his interests, guiding him towards a future career in Genetic Engineering.

Eran Tapan

Eran Tapan, founder of IDE Project development company, began his career as a planning specialist at Koç Holding. He later contributed to Turkey’s EU membership negotiations and crafted Turkey's Anti-Dumping Law. Tapan played a pivotal role in establishing the global dealer network for the LASSA brand at Sabanci Holding. Over 29 years, he held diverse roles in business development, media, and international trade, including managerial positions at Atwood Richards and MRI. Specializing in marketing, media, and cybersecurity, Tapan focuses on innovative technologies and R&D collaborations. He holds degrees from Ankara Gazi University, Istanbul University, and completed a program at Cambridge University.

Itır Beğen

Itır Beğen is a Sabanci University EAP instructor and the FDY Public Speaking Program coordinator. She is also the Head of the Jury Panel of the English-Speaking Union Turkey selecting the national finalists. She has an MA in English Language Teaching and is a Fulbright Alumna from Cornell University ’08. She was awarded the English-Speaking Union Shakespeare’s Globe Scholarship for Teachers in 2010, the EF Education First BV and Teacher Workshop Seminars and Scholarship in 2014, and the Sabanci University Teacher Award 3rd place in 2018.

Jonathan Heilig

Jonathan Heilig, born and raised in Dorchester, Boston, found solace in storytelling from his father's nightly readings. Despite academic struggles, he turned to writing and art, shaping their future. After exploring various occupations, he returned to school to study children's literature and creative writing, leading to his first book. Now in Istanbul, Jonathan teaches English, writes, and runs a children's bookstore with his wife, cherishing their role as a devoted father to Zelda and Arya.

Poyraz Güllü, a 10th-grade student at Ayazağa Işık High School, is heavily involved in extracurriculars. He's a prominent member of the Debate Club, excelling in events like the Eurasian Schools Debating Championship and the Burak Bora Debate Tournament. Poyraz is seasoned in public speaking, addressing events like the 100th anniversary of the Republic and the school's library book talks. He's lined up to speak at the IşıkTalks event on UN sustainable development goals. Moreover, he's showcased his versatility in theatre events like Novel Characters Day. Poyraz has actively contributed to community service efforts, including post-earthquake recovery for "Yolağzı İlköğretim Okulu" after the 2023 Hatay earthquake. Additionally, he's achieved Grade 8 certification from the London College of Music Examinations. Poyraz's determination and work ethic shine through, confident in delivering compelling speeches.

Poyraz Emre Birdoğan, deeply passionate about nature and physics, excels academically at FMV Ayazağa Işık High School. Among his varied interests, physics, particularly mechanics, holds a special fascination for him. His academic success earned him a scholarship due to his score in the LGS. Beyond academics, Poyraz engages in extracurriculars, including membership in the men's volleyball team and chess club, embodying determination and curiosity. In his free time, Poyraz enjoys city strolls, marveling at Istanbul's architecture, and studying insects and reptiles. Yet, volleyball and arts and crafts are also significant to him. Serving as the Vice President of the MUN club, he has honed his leadership and communication skills. Outside the realm of academia, music has been his passion ever since. Also water holds a special allure for Rüzgar, providing a sense of liberation and tranquility. Swimming offers him an escape from the confines of daily life.
