Born in Tokyo, Akira Kakugo was interested in things that move beautifully and orderly like "swarms" of birds and fish. After entering Hokkaido University, Akira studied in biomolecular motors. And by assembling biomolecular motors, he developed the world’s smallest power unit which was driven by chemical energy during his master and doctor courses. Currently, as Associate Professor at Graduate School of Science, Hokkaido University, he focuses on developing a molecular robot that has a biomolecular motor as its driving force.
