Choosing your truth: A story of queerness in India

After the onset of the jarring global pandemic, everyone's definitions of risks and safety have changed to include and disclude new things. In her speech, Anahita Sarabhai reflects on the risks that have prevailed in people's lives from long before COVID-19 and narrates the choices and leaps of faith she had to make as a queer individual. From the baby steps towards self-realisation as a pre-teen to the positive social change created as the founder of QueerAbad, her story is an inspiration. It voices the questions that undoubtedly weigh on the minds of countless Indians - queer or otherwise: Is it "un-Indian" to be queer? Is it a sin to break the norms and traditions passed down generations? Anahita's talk is a bitter reminder of our injustices to the LGBTQIA+ community, but it also gives hope that they'll now have a better place in the world.
