Our kids, more than ever, are struggling with mental illness. Parents are kids’ first responders and their most important allies, but parents often are ill-equipped to help their children, and a support system is the most crucial part of arming parents to be great resources for their kids. They need people around them who know they are in trouble, who understand they need help.
In order to address the mental health crisis our children are facing, which was likely brought on by social media, rising expectations about achievement and perfectionism, and exacerbated by the isolation of a pandemic, parents need SUPPORT.
The call to action is if you are a parent of a child who is struggling? REACH OUT.
If you know someone who is the parent of a kid in trouble? HELP THEM.
If you think you don’t know anyone who is dealing with this? YOU DO. Yes, you do. THEY ARE SILENT. FIND them. CONNECT with them. Maybe even bring them a Tater Tot Hotdish.
The key takeaway is to get involved in the messiness of life and make connections that are meaningful to people, connections that may ultimately save the lives of children.
