A Distant Path to Forgiveness

The old adage "Forgive and Forget" is impossible when you are repeatedly offended and/or victimized. How can you forgive and forget someone for hurting you if the offense keeps happening? I believe a key component of forgiveness is associated with memory and developing a new understanding of the trauma and the griefs associated with the trauma. Perhaps when understanding it differently, it releases the pinned up anger and resentment associated with the offense.
