Do you fear confrontations? Do conflicts give you the jitters? Does it unsettle you when someone picks up a fight with you? Maybe ….There is a possibility that we might not want to take chances. WE always want to play it safe Conflict and dispute are everywhere in and part of our lives: From an argument with a family member to board room differences to an international dispute. There is no state, nation, society, community, organization or interpersonal relationship which does not experience conflict at some time or another as part of their daily interaction. Conflict is costly to organizations, damaging to relationships and it can be disastrous for nations. Like it or not, you are going to have to deal with conflict from time to time. -it’s unavoidable.
So when someone asks me why do you want to take chances with people? I tell then WHY NOT? Because I believe there is lot of learning there. Every challenge is a new experience. Every conflict teaches something new. Every confrontation brings into light a very significant aspect of human behavior. So yes , I embrace them.
My talk tackles three main points:
How do we deal with the emotional dimensions of conflict and turn adversaries into partners.
Understand the role of emotions in a successful negotiation.
